Brendan Rodgers is looking to get a jump on his summer transfer business by making a huge £20m offer for Saints star Adam Lallana on Monday.

However, it is believed that Southampton are not ready to enter discussions until Liverpool up their offer by a further £5m.

The Saints, though, have resigned themselves to losing the England international, but the club are looking to milk as much out of his transfer fee as possible after seeing him become an accomplished Premier League performer.

The Saints are also under no obligation to cash in on the 26-year-old, meaning that they can demand whatever fee they like for his services.

But it is said that the Hampshire club owe around £27m in outstanding transfer fees, as well as a loan to owner Katharina Liebherr for training ground renovations, meaning the departures of Lallana and Manchester United target Luke Shaw are increasingly likely.
