The 35 year old will leave Old Trafford this summer but isn’t looking to retire from the game and though there is an offer to make a move to the MLS the veteran centre-back may feel he still has something to offer at the highest level before consider a Stateside switch.

Though clearly in the latter stages of his career Ferdinand has proven this term that he has what it takes to retain a Premier League career, the former England man has started a dozen fixtures for Man United this season and though he was clearly found wanting at times, his display against local rivals Man City springs to mind, he is still on his day a very able performer.

Upton Park boss Sam Allardyce may feel that the return of Ferdinand could well help his cause to appease a fan-base that has turned against him this season and given that the defender wouldn’t cost a penny it’s a calculated risk that could well pay off.

Ferdinand played 157 games for West Ham before moving to Leeds United in November 2000.
