The highly rated England international has just enjoyed another fine campaign with the south-coast club, so much so that the Reds are understood to have recently lodged an offer believed to be somewhere in the region of the £20m mark for Lallana.

However, it is also said that the Saints hierarchy are determined to hold out for a fee of £25m for the coveted 26-year-old, especially as the club will have to hand over some of the eventual transfer fee to Lallana’s former club Bournemouth.

All of which means that the player may now have to make his intentions absolutely clear to his employers by handing in a transfer request, especially if Lallana does want to seal his move to the Merseysiders before this summer’s World Cup gets under way next month.

Lallana scored nine goals in his 38 Premier League outings last season.
