Arsene Wenger opted to offload Vela after the adaptable stylish forward failed to make a significant impact at the north London club, selling the striker to La Liga side Real Sociedad after a season long loan spell at the Basque club.

Having seen Vela mature into a hugely effective performer Wenger will now pay the €4m (£3.2m) needed to execute his return to the Premier League side.

Vela has netted 15 goals in 34 La Liga starts this season and only Atletico Madrid’s Koke, Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria have provided more assists than the 25 year old.

The Cancun born forward showed plenty of ability during his previous spell at Arsenal but too often vanished in games only to occasionally pull off a moment of brilliance to remind watching spectator his natural talent.

Now Vela is a more rounded striker who could well provide Arsenal with a much needed additional attacking option to help offer support for the likes of Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.
