The experienced England international’s current contract with the Premier League champions runs out at the end of June, meaning that Barry will therefore be available to pick up on a free transfer this summer.

And the defensive midfielder, who is currently on holiday in Portugal, is now expected to make a choice between Goodison Park and the Emirates within the space of the next seven days.

However, it is the north London club who hold all the aces at present after beating the Merseyside giants to the final qualifying berth in next season’s Uefa Champions League, a competition that Barry is said to be desperate to play in again.

Equally, though, the 33-year-old has just enjoyed an excellent campaign in the centre of the park for the Toffees under new head coach Roberto Marrinez, during which time Barry scored three goals and created four more in his 32 Premier League games under the Spaniard.
