Liverpool are reportedly in talks to sign Chelsea youngster Thorgan Hazard with Brendan Rodgers approaching Jose Mourinho ahead of formal negotiations according to the Metro.

The 21 year old Belgian has spent the last two seasons on loan at Zulte Waregem and has proven a massive success so much so that he is on the standby list for the national team squad for the upcoming World Cup finals.

Thorgan is however yet to play a senior fixture for Chelsea and as such could well be a player Blues boss Mourinho would consider cashing in on.

There are a host of players who would be ahead of the youngster in the Chelsea pecking order, not least his older brother Eden, and Schalke and Everton are both also said to be tracking the former Lens man.

Mourinho may prefer to loan out Thorgan rather than sell him outright, no doubt acutely aware of his potential, and this source’s £6m valuation seems incredibly low in today’s inflated transfer market.

Brendan Rodgers knows Mourinho well and having previously worked for the west London club the Anfield boss may fancy his chances or luring Thorgan to Merseyside.

The Liverpool manager has adopted a youthful transfer policy and would do well to land such a talented prospect, who he could look to use to beef up his options in the final third.

In view of making such a move Rodgers could well look to offload the likes of Fabio Borini, Iago Aspas and Oussama Assaidi, players who could well be seen as surplus to requirements.
