Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik could be one of Mauricio Pochettino’s first signings as Tottenham Hotspur boss, according to Football Direct News.

Pochettino was announced as the man to replace sacked head coach Tim Sherwood on Tuesday.

He has promised that Spurs will play attractive and attacking football during his reign – something that would certainly suit Hamsik.

Hamsik, who is known for his extremely spiky hair, made 28 Serie A appearances this season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

The 26-year-old operates best just behind a striker and is an exceptionally good passer and dribbler.

He has four years left to run on his current contract, so Napoli are unlikely to sell him for anything less than £30m.

However, it is claimed that Tottenham’s Italian director Franco Baldini has identified Hamsik as a potential signing.

Hamsik is a Slovakia international who has scored 11 goals in 69 senior games for his country.

If he were to leave Napoli for Spurs, he would have to swap Champions League football for a Europa League campaign.

Napoli finished third in Italy’s top division this term, while Tottenham could only muster a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

The Naples club’s impressive season was improved by winning the Coppa Italia for the fifth time in their history.
