Chelsea Hold Transfer Discussions With La Liga Giants For Brazilian Star

Chelsea have reopened talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Brazilian star, who Jose Mourinho sees as vital to the Stamford Bridge outfit next season.

Chelsea are negotiating with Spanish club Atletico Madrid for the transfer of 28-year old Brazilian left-back Felipe Luis, who has been one of the top performers for the La Liga side this season.

The industrious left-back helped the Los Rojiblancos establish the best defensive record in La Liga on their way to the title this past season – conceding just 26 goals in 38 league matches – and he also starred in the club’s impressive run to the UEFA Champions League final, where they eventually lost to Real Madrid.

Luis has emerged as a target for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese boss impressed by the former Deportivo La Coruna man’s performances against the Blues in the Champions League semi-finals, and he now views the Brazilian as a key signing.

Luis would not be easy to prise away from the Vicente Calderon though as he is said to have a £19.4 million buy-out clause in his deal with Atletico, and still has 3-years left to run on his deal with them.

Although Chelsea are believed to be pushing hard for the deal, Luis has hinted that his preference is to stay on at Atletico Madrid beyond this summer.

“I have a contract for three years. My thought is to continue,” the Atleti player is quoted as having told Brazilian publication O Globo by the Daily Mail.

“We have to lift our heads high and think about the next goal.”
