Lamela was drafted in as a direct replacement for Real Madrid bound Gareth Bale last summer, and was tipped to make a big impact on the Premier League after displaying some impressive form in Serie A last term.

However, he struggled to adapt to English football and has endured a string of injury problems, and now Spurs are believed to be ready to offload him for two-thirds of the price.

Reports in Italy have claimed that Lamela’s representatives have been told by the North London outfit that they will listen to offers of around £20m for his signature, but are not willing to consider sending him out on loan for any amount of time.

Both Inter Milan and Juventus are thought to be keen on taking him back to Italy’s top flight, though no official approach has been made so far.

The 22-year-old made just nine league appearances last term.
