Arsenal have not succeeded in their £9m offer for Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish club do not want to sell their 29-year old defender, and have therefore rejected Arsenal’s initial offer for him. Juanfran enjoyed a superb season in Spain, helping his side clinch the title, and coming agonisingly close to Champions League glory as well, losing to rivals Real Madrid in the final.

The Gunners are keen to replace their French right-back Bacary Sagna, who will move on from the club this summer, and have lined up a whole host of targets for the same.

The likes of Juanfran, Serge Aurier, Atsuto Uchida and Calum Chambers have all been considered by the Gunners, but it seems as though their search for a replacement will go further into the summer as they have failed to agree a deal for any right-back so far.

The experienced Juanfran is probably Arsenal’s first choice to replace Sagna as their manager Arsene Wenger might want an established figure to slot into his back four. The Spanish international though remains intent on staying with Atletico, and could therefore prove hard to lure away from the Vicente Calderon.
