Tottenham’s club record signing Erik Lamela is set to undergo a special fitness programme with his former club River Plate back in his home country Argentina in a bid to prove his worth to the North London club next season, reports the Telegraph.

The 22-year old was signed by Spurs for £30m from AS Roma last summer but a spate of injuries have wrecked his first season in London. Already, he’s being labelled as one of the most expensive flops in Premier League history, but the talented playmaker is apparently determined to prove his doubters wrong.

There were rumours that the Argentine international would be sold by Spurs this summer, after he only made 17 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites last term. Reports suggest though that Spurs are confident their new boss Mauricio Pochettino will get the best out of the highly rated winger once the starlet comes back for pre-season after regaining fitness in his homeland.

Although Spurs could have a major shake up of their squad after Pochettino takes stock of his team at White Hart Lane, it seems as though both the North Londoners and Lamela are determined to succeed next season.
