It looked to all the world that Arsenal were on the verge of completing a deal for Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier, but according to the Daily Star today, Liverpool have entered the race for his signature at the last minute.

This fan footage from a Gunners supporter shows Aurier seemingly admitting he’s set for an Emirates move, with Arsene Wenger targeting the young Ivorian to replace the departing Bacary Sagna on the right of the back four.

However, it seems that Liverpool also want Aurier, who was voted into the Ligue 1 Team of the Year following his excellent campaign in France.

The African powerhouse managed to get forward up the right flank and score and assist six goals apiece – earning him the interest of firstly the Gunners, and now Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool outfit.

As a result of his form, he’s expected to start for the Ivory Coast this summer at the World Cup.

Liverpool already have Glen Johnson on the right of defence, but the Englishman is stalling on a contract extension.

21-year-old Aurier could provide the Reds with Johnson’s long-term replacement – with the side also targeting a big money left-back as well.

Young Spaniard Alberto Moreno is expected to sign in the coming days for around £17m.
