Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has long been linked with an interest in the hugely experienced Spanish international and is readying a move to bring in the Bernabeu star to compete with Wojciech Szczesny for the Emirates Stadium starting spot.

The 33 year old has been cruelly overlooked by successive Real Madrid manager’s in relation to La Liga action, with the World Cup winner amazingly starting just two La Liga fixtures in the past 18 months, this despite his superb performances in the Champions League triumph last season.

It’s more than a tad confusing as to why first Jose Mourinho and then Carlo Ancelotti would continue to leave Casillas in the shadows, opting to use Diego Lopez as Real Madrid’s first choice custodian, and the Real Madrid club captain must surely be considering his options.

Casillas still has a fair few years in the tank and could be tempted by a move to the Premier League if he were to leave the Spanish capital though one imagines his wage demands would be sky-high.
