Cole’s contract with the Blues expires at the end of the month and has been expected to end his eight year association with the club by possibly taking up a lucrative offer in the United States.

Earlier this week, Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard announced he will leave the Blues this summer, but captain John Terry put pen to paper on a new one-year deal last month.

But with no final decision made over Cole’s future, Mourinho has hinted that there is still a chance that the 33-year-old could remain at Stamford Bridge.

“With Frank Lampard I spoke a couple of weeks before the end of the Premier League, with Ashley I didn’t get that chance,” he said.

“They are different situations. I want to see what is going on, what is going to happen. But I will speak to him.”

Chelsea have been linked with a number of new left-back in recent weeks, including Atletico Madrid’s Felipe Luis, but keeping hold of Cole could mean that their presence in that area of the transfer market may come to an end.
