The Reds had initially been interested in the young Spanish full-back with reports earlier this week claiming that an £18m deal was just days away from being completed.
However, the deal has been put on ice after it emerged that Tottenham were also keen on the player and would look to make their own bid for him in the coming days.
And now reports in Germany are claiming that Brendan Rodgers is set to revive his interest in the Swiss star after he fell out of favour at the Alianz Arena.
The 22-year-old is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League as Manchester United were said to be keen on him also but Louis van Gaal’s arrival as boss is said to have cooled that interest leaving the way seemingly clear for the Reds.
