West Ham are readying a move for Chelsea youngster Oriol Romeu according to the Metro.

The young Spaniard is apparently surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is keen on signing the former Barcelona man.

Romeu was loaned out to Valencia last season and may well be a player Jose Mourinho is ready to sell this summer though the 22 year old may prefer a move back to La Liga over a move from west to east London.

On arrival from the Nou Camp Romeu initially impressed, making 24 appearances in 2011/12 but his chances were more limited under Rafa Benitez and Mourinho clearly had no hesitation about sending the youngster to the Mestalla last term, indicating that he isn’t a player highly regarded by the Chelsea boss.

Romeu will have his work cut out trying to force his way into Mourinho’s first team set-up, not least as a host of loaned out performers could be vying with the former Spanish Under 21 international for a role in the Chelsea first team set-up in 2014/15.
