He missed a penalty in the final, but he still says it was ‘the best day of his career’.

Attacking left-back John Arne Riise has revealed that he is to get a a Liverpool FC tattoo.

The 33-year-old, who has played for Fulham for the past three seasons, spent seven years at Anfield.

He made 350 first-team appearances for the Reds, scoring 33 goals.

Riise won two Community Shields, two UEFA Super Cups, one FA Cup and one League Cup with Liverpool.

However, his proudest achievement was winning the Champions League in 2005.

Liverpool were 3-0 down to AC Milan in the final in Istanbul when Riise crossed for captain Steven Gerrard to make it 3-1 shortly after half time.

The Reds went on to level the game thanks to further goals from Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso, before winning it in a dramatic penalty shootout, in which Riise failed to score his spot kick.

Riise says that he will get the Champions League trophy tattooed on his sleeve, along with the date of the final – 25.05.05 – and “YNWA”, which are the initials of Liverpool’s club legendary motto – You’ll never walk alone.

The Norwegian will also get wedding rings inked on his arm, after marring his beautiful wife earlier this summer. Click here for pictures of their crazy wedding day.

Riise announced his tattoo plans on Instagram, accompanying his message with the below picture.
