Manchester United youngster Nick Powell has become a top target for newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley, according to the paper edition of the Sun, as referenced in the Mirror.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled to break into the first-team at Old Trafford since joining the club from Crewe Alexandra back in 2012, but remains highly regarded as one of the most promising young players currently coming through at the club.

Powell enjoyed a successful loan spell with Wigan Athletic this season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions, playing both as a striker and just behind the main centre forward, showing his versatility as well as natural ability.

Still, it is thought that the England Under-21 international may still struggle to find a way into the starting lineup on a regular basis this season, particularly with new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal reportedly plotting a number of big-money signings of more established players in this summer’s transfer window.

Several clubs have been linked with Powell in the past, but Burnley are now emerging as the leading contenders to snap him up ahead of next season, with manager Sean Dyche desperate to add some quality to his squad after his side’s promotion from the Championship this term.
