Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger looks set to consider a £15m Man United offer for bit-part player Thomas Vermaelen, a decision that could greatly anger Gunners fans according to the Metro.

Wenger decided against re-signing Cesc Fabregas this summer, leaving the Spaniard free to join rivals Chelsea and has seen right-back Bacary Sagna run down his contract before signing for Man City so the prospect of another Arsenal man joining a Premier League rival must surely concern the Emirates Stadium boss.

Vermaelen has made just eight Premier League starts since March 2013 and has fallen behind Wenger’s first choice central defensive pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker and the former Ajax man is too good a player to be left warming the bench but one would imagine Arsenal would prefer to sell to a non-Premier League side.

A £15m offer for the 28 year old defender would be tough to turn down and Vermaelen may well fancy the chance to move to Old Trafford, where he may be seen by incoming Man United boss Louis van Gaal as a reliable replacement to fill the void left by the departure of veteran pair Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
