Van Gaal continues to pursue £56m rated PSG forward Edinson Cavani who is apparently pushing for a Parc des Princes exit after growing disillusioned with playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The former Napoli man played out wide for much of the last campaign but still racked up 25 goals in all competitions and a big fee for the Uruguayan may well be considered by the Ligue 1 side as they look to balance their books having spent nearly £50m on Chelsea star David Luiz.

Man United are also chasing FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez with the Colombian said to have a £32m release clause which could well be triggered by any number of big European sides who are chasing the Colombian.

The 27 year old has enjoyed two hugely successful campaigns in Portugal, netted 60 goals in 91 appearances for FC Porto but having seen his side surrender their Primeira Liga title to arch rivals Benfica the powerful goal machine may feel the time is right to consider a possible Estadio do Dragao exit.

Louis van Gaal looks set to allow Javier Hernandez to leave Old Trafford to help make room for possible striking additions.
