The in-form Mexican international was seemingly set for a return to Arsenal as the Emirates Stadium side had the rights to buy the 25 year old for a reduced price, meaning that Arsene Wenger would have been free to sign the former Gunners man and then able to sell him on at a big profit.

Instead it appears that the La Liga side will pay Arsenal €11m and then look to tie the forward down to a new long term contract.

Vela moved to Real Sociedad in July 2012, having impressed during an initial loan spell, and has gone on to become one of the most feared attackers in La Liga.

The flair player has scored 48 goals and provided 29 assists in his 124 appearances for Real Sociedad and could be ready for a move to the Vicente Calderon, where he could be seen as a viable replacement for Chelsea bound star Diego Costa.
