The 21 year old joined the Gunners in August 2011 and initially spent loan spells as Real Betis and Lorient before he was granted a work permit last summer.
Nonetheless the flair player was once again sent out on loan to learn his trade and impressed greatly at Olympiakos, helping the Athens club to a Greek title as well as putting in a memorable display in the club’s Champions League first leg win over Man United.
Campbell put in a man of the match display yesterday, helping Costa Rica to a famous win over Uruguay, netting his nation’s leveling goal and going close on a number of other occasions.
On the subject of an imminent return to north London Campbell confidently replied;
“Of course I have to go back because I have a contract with Arsenal,”
“But the most important thing just now is my country and the World Cup.”
The youngster added;
“Today was excellent for me but it would have come to naught without the contribution of my colleagues,” the Arsenal youngster added. “Everyone lived up to their responsibilities. I tried to do my best to score goals and my colleague supported me.
“We have to take one step after another. We have difficult matches ahead but this will give us impetus.”
One wonders just what level of impact Campbell can have in the Arsenal first team next term. The adaptable starlet can play in a variety of attacking positions and will hope to challenge the likes of Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott for a wide attacking berth or perhaps in a more central role.
