The 22-year-old was one of the unsung heroes from his country’s surprise 3-1 victory over Uruguay on Saturday night, and is now being courted by a whole host of English sides looking to bring him on board.

As well as Everton, the likes of of Sunderland, Derby, Brighton and Fulham are all thought to be keeping tabs on Tejeda.

Currently on the books of Saprissa in his home land, Tejeda will have a great chance to impress his potential suitors next week when Costa Rica take on England in their final game of Group D.

And despite only being 22, he is already a seasoned professional at international level, and his UK representative, Mike Williams of Sportspoint International, insists that the race to land his signature is hotting up.

“We already have a good level of interest in Yeltsin, both here in the UK and also from Belgium and Spain,” Williams said.

“There were offers from Belgium in January and we also turned down offers from Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS earlier this year.

“So given his very good performance in the match against Uruguay (and with games against Italy and England still to come), I am confident he will enhance his growing reputation further during the World Cup.”
