The Toulouse right-back, a rumoured target for Premier League giants Arsenal, was in fine form for his country as he claimed two assists from right-back to help the African nation get off to a winning start against Japan in their opening game of this summer’s World Cup.

The 21-year-old was outstanding for his club in Ligue 1 this season, showing great potential as an attacking full-back with six goals and six assists from defence, and it is thought that a deal for him to move to the Emirates Stadium could be close to completion.

The Gunners are in need of a new signing on the right-hand side of their defence following the recent departure of Bacary Sagna to rivals Manchester City, and Drogba believes Aurier will be a great addition, as he looks ready to make the step up to a more competitive league.

In a glowing tribute to his young colleague, the 36-year-old said: “Serge brought us energy and balance and he had a fantastic game.

“He’s the best right-back in all of France. I think he’ll do well at the next level too, in the Premier League.”

Drogba’s words suggest that Aurier’s rumoured move to Arsenal could well be in place for next season, in what looks like a great piece of business by the north London side.
