Watch Joachim Low’s side open their tournament with a convincing victory over ten-man Portugal.

Germany kicked off their 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign in style with an emphatic victory over Portugal in Group G, with Thomas Muller bagging the first hat-trick of the tournament.

Muller opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Mario Gotze was brought down when through on goal, before Mats Hummels rose highest to powerfully head past Rui Patricio from a corner.

Portugal’s race was run within the first half as they were reduced to ten men when Pepe inexplicably headbutted Muller, an incident that the German did albeit make the most of.

The Bayern Munich striker dusted himself off and scored twice more, spinning quickly to direct home just before the interval and rounding things off late on when he prodded past Patricio from a yard out.
