Juventus were said to be leading the chase for the 25 year old forward but Liverpool’s decision to up their opening bid from £18m to £27m may put the Anfield side back into the driving seat.

Anfield scouts were reportedly in attendance to see the Barcelona man put in a tremendous displays against Australia, with the 25 year old scoring one and assisting another in his side’s 3-1 win over the Socceroos.

Sanchez had his best season at Barcelona to date last term, netting 19 goals in 27 La Liga starts, but is seemingly surplus to requirements at the club and a good offer for the former Udinese man may well be accepted by the Nou Camp side as incoming boss Luis Enrique looks to re-shuffle his squad.

Rodgers has already sealed deals to sign experienced Southampton forward Rickie Lambert and German youngster Emre Can and may see Sanchez as the ideal third prong in an attack that would see the adaptable attacker line-up alongside Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
