Newcastle first made enquiries for Lasogga before the end of his season and they have met with his mother, who also acts as the 22-year-old’s advisor.

He first caught Alan Pardew’s eye after helping Hamburg avoid relegation last season having spent the season there on loan.

The striker and his mother met with Hertha’s general manager Michael Preetz last week where the three of them agreed that he had three options: stay at Hertha, return to Hamburg, or move to Newcastle.

“It is only about three clubs; Hertha, Hamburg or Newcastle,” Preetz said.

Lasogga, who has recently made his way into the German national team, is now said to be weighing up his options and has already visited St James’ Park and the club’s training ground with the view of making the move to the Northeast.

Lasogga bagged 13 goals in 20 appearances for Hamburg last term, and Pardew has identified him as the ideal man to help solve the club’s goalscoring problems.

However, Newcastle are having problems convincing long time target Bafetimbi Gomis to join the club after he refused to drop his massive wage demands.
