The Italian giants had previously held positive talks with the Chilean over a return to Serie A recently, but as of yet have failed to agree terms with his club.

Juve saw their initial offer of £18m turned down by the Spaniards, but reports close to the club have claimed that they are ready to match Barca’s £20m asking price to ensure that they bring him on board.

Sources in Italy suggest that the player would prefer a move to Juventus and will quite readily turn his back on a move to the Premier League in order to get his wish.

Manchester United representatives were also said to be in talks with the Chile star last week, too, as new boss Louis Van Gaal left a list of top targets in the hands of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Woodward, who came in for huge criticism last summer for failing to land any of former manager David Moyes’ top targets, looks set to lose out once again with Sanchez unwilling to move to a club not playing in the Champions League.
