Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton are set to lock horns in their efforts to land 28-year old QPR midfielder Stephane Mbia, who is out of contract at Loftus Road this month, reports the Daily Star.

The Cameroon enforcer spent the whole of last season on loan at Sevilla, and impressed sufficiently for the Europa League winners to attract the attention of the Reds and the Toffees.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers feels that the powerful midfielder would add an extra dimension to his highly technical midfield, while Everton boss Roberto Martinez sees the Cameroon international as a replacement for Gareth Barry, who might not make a permanent switch to Goodison Park after failing to agree personal terms with Everton.

Reports suggest though that both clubs are only willing to offer 1-year deals to the enforcer, who could then be tempted to stay in Spain with Sevilla, who are impressed enough to hand him a better deal this summer.
