Check in to Brazil vs Mexico

West Ham are reportedly close to completing a move to sign Senegal international defender Cheikhou Kouyate according to the Daily Star.

The Upton Park side expect to clinch a £7.5m deal to sign the 24 year old Anderlecht centre-back in the next 48 hours with a medical booked and a four year contract on the table.

La Liga side Valencia had been closing in on the powerful Dakar born defender but the Mestalla outfit were unable to provide assurances to Anderlecht required and as such the Belgian side will instead sell their player to the Hammers.

Kouyate becomes Sam Allardyce’s second signing of the summer with Argentine forward Mauro Zarate having joined from Velez Sarsfield.

Hammers boss Allardyce will be handed a £20m transfer war-chest to help beef up his West Ham squad with the club’s co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan keeping faith with the under-fire boss after a less than glorious 13th place finish in the Premier League last term.
