Barcelona Told To Pay Mammoth £55m Fee For Napoli Striker Gonzalo Higuain

Argentine striker valued highly by Napoli.Barcelona have reportedly been told to cough up a whopping £55m to sign Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli this summer, according to AS.

The 26-year-old had an excellent first season in Serie A after his move from Real Madrid, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists for his team-mates, and his fine form could now be set to earn him a big-money move back to La Liga.

Higuain scored 122 goals for Barca’s rivals Madrid between 2007 and 2013, and he is now said to be up there with the likes of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Liverpool star Luis Suarez as the Catalan giants’ main transfer targets this year.

However, Napoli are desperate not to lose the player so soon after signing him, and have slapped a massive £55m asking price on his head to ward off suitors, with Arsenal also thought to be tracking him after also trying to sign him in last summer’s transfer window.

Higuain has recently admitted he is flattered by interest from Barcelona, and stated a desire to play alongside his fellow countryman Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp, though a final decision on his future is expected after the World Cup finals in Brazil.
