Liverpool And Arsenal Fight It Out For Barcelona Duo

Premier League giants set to battle for the signings of Nou Camp pair Bojan Krkic and Ibrahim Afellay.

According to reports from talkSPORT today, Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal are both interested in unwanted Barcelona duo Bojan Krkic and Ibrahim Afellay.

Both players are believed to be surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp as new manager Luis Enrique looks to raise much-needed funds to help him reshape his squad this summer after a frustrating 2013/14 season for the Catalan club.

Spanish forward Bojan Krkic was tipped as a potentially huge star of the future when he made his Barcelona debut aged 17, but he has struggled to live up the early hype that surrounded him, failing to impress in short spells with AS Roma, AC Milan and Ajax.

Afellay, meanwhile, arrived at Barcelona from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 but has gone on to make just 21 league appearances for the club in the three years that have passed since.

The main reason for Afellay’s lack of appearances for Barcelona are a succession of serious injuries that have curtailed the Dutchman’s progress, with a loan spell at Schalke in Germany also being hampered by his lack of fitness.

With both players likely to be available for cut-price fees and having shown plenty of promise in the past, however, it is perfectly possible that Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers could see them as being worth the gamble.
