A look ahead at Uruguay v England, with live streaming link.
Where: Areana de Sao Paulo
When: Thursday 19 June, 20:00 BST
Despite an opening day defeat to Italy, England can take plenty of positives from their performance into tonight’s game, when they will face a Uruguay side also under pressure to get a result after they succumbed to a surprise 3-1 loss to Costa Rica.
Much has been made of Wayne Rooney’s role and performance in the 2-1 loss at the weekend, with the Manchester United star looking far from his best in an unfamiliar role on the left-hand side, though he did provide the assist for Daniel Sturridge to equalise on the night.
Manager Roy Hodgson will have to decide whether or not Rooney deserves to start ahead of Sturridge upfront, while the likes of Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana will certainly make a case for starting ahead of him out wide.
For Uruguay, the big news is that star player Luis Suarez should make it back into the team after recovering from injury. The Liverpool man has been one of the best players in the world this season, and could make a timely recovery to help his national side get back to winning ways as they look to progress to the next round.
England will perhaps be slight favourites for this match if they can repeat their fine attacking play from the Italy game, but Suarez joining Edinson Cavani upfront for the South Americans should make them a different prospect from the side that unexpectedly lost to Costa Rica.
