Former Chelsea Star Wants £6m Contract But Not With Arsenal

Experienced goalscorer would prefer a move to Roma over Arsenal, but he wants a £60,000 a week in wages.

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o is keen to sign a lucrative contract with Serie A giants Roma, according to The Express.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after being released by Chelsea, for whom he scored 12 goals in 35 first-team appearances.

He is currently in Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but his country have already been eliminated from the tournament, having lost their opening two group games – to Mexico and Croatia.

Arsenal and Everton have both been credited with an interest in Eto’o, but Roma appear to be leading the race for his signature.

Eto’o is said to favour a move to Rome, but only if his wage demands can be matched.

The former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan player apparently wants a two-year contract worth just over £3m per season, which works out at around £60,000 per week.

Roma will be in next season’s Champions League, after finishing second in Serie A.

Their leading scorer this season was Mattia Destro with 13 goals in 20 league outings.

Gervinho chipped in with nine, while club legend Francesco Totti bagged eight.

Alessandro Florenzi, Adem Ljajic and Miralem Pjanic all contributed six Serie A goals apiece.
