According to reports in The Mirror this morning, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in bringing fellow Argentinian Esteban Cambiasso to the club after the veteran midfielder left Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Tottenham have been linked with an eclectic variety of players since Pochettino took over, including Sunderland defender John O’Shea and PSV striker Memphis Depay, but Cambiasso is the biggest name to be linked with a move to the North London club this summer.

Despite being 33 years of age, Cambiasso impressed on his appearances for Inter last season and his experienced would be invaluable to a Spurs side that often seems to exude a youthful naivety, with the Argentinian having made over 300 appearances for the Serie A side after spells with Real Madrid and River Plate.

He would have plenty of competition for a place in the Tottenham midfield, however, with the likes of Moussa Dembele, Sandro and Gylfi Sigurdsson vying for a place alongside last summer’s signings Paulinho and Etienne Capoue.

With some of those expected to leave to raise funds for new signings, however, the opportunity to bring in an experienced campaigner on a free transfer may allow Pochettino to pull off a double swoop by strengthening his midfield and allowing transfer funds to be reallocated to other areas of the squad.
