Southampton winger Adam Lallana is desperate to join Liverpool this summer, but is reluctant to hand in a transfer request at his current club, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 26-year-old, currently on World Cup duty with England, was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in the 2013/14 season, and has attracted plenty of interest from bigger clubs in recent times, with Liverpool known to be his biggest admirers.

Although the Reds have already failed with two bids for Lallana, they are likely to try again with a cash-plus-player deal involving young Italian forward Fabio Borini, and are also said to be keen on another Southampton star, defender Dejan Lovren.

With veteran striker Rickie Lambert making a £4m move to Anfield earlier this summer, it could still be a triple raid by the Merseyside giants on the Saints, who also lost their manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of May.

Lallana has spent his entire career so far at the St Mary’s Stadium and does not want to part on bad terms with the club’s supporters, and for this reason will look to avoid requesting an exit in an attempt to force through a move to Liverpool.
