Not content with adding Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas to his midfield ranks, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is now looking to sign Sami Khedira from Real Madrid according to reports in the Mirror.

Despite having Nemanja Matic and Ramires as defensive minded options to partner Fabregas in midfield, Mourinho seems to want to bring in the experienced German international who is currently starring for Joachim Low’s side at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Khedira spent much of the 2013/14 season sidelined with a serious knee injury, but the former Stuttgart man returned in time to play some part in the Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid and get himself ready for Low’s Germany squad.

The 27 year-old arrived at Real Madrid from Bundesliga side Vfb Stuttgart on the back of his impressive performances for Germany at the 2010 World Cup and went on to establish himself as a key part of Jose Mourinho’s team at the Bernabeu.

With just one year left on his contract, however, and finding himself less integral to the plans of Mourinho’s successor Carlo Ancelotti, Khedira could well be tempted by the opportunity to rejoin his former mentor in the Premier League as Chelsea look to pick up major honours next season after missing out at the death this year.
