Man United are set to welcome in their first signing of the summer with Spanish source AS claiming Brazilian defender Miranda is set to complete a move to Old Trafford.

Previous reports claim such a move would entail Louis van Gaal’s side triggering the experienced defender’s £24m release clause which would make a great deal of sense given that the Dutch coach has a massive defensive void to fill following the summer exits of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

The 29 year old centre-back had a stand-out campaign with his Vicente Calderon side last term but has impressed greatly throughout his three year association with the Spanish side but may well feel the time is right for a new challenge.

The fact that the former Sao Paulo man failed to secure a berth in Felipe Scolari’s final 2014 World Cup squad may be the extra motivation for his move for pastures new.

Louis van Gaal may well feel the need to invest in a number of defensive additions, especially if he fails to tie down experienced left-back Patrice Evra to a new deal with his current contract set to expire in a matter of days.

Miranda has been a virtual ever present since moving to the Spanish capital, making 141 appearances in his three seasons with the club.
