Croatia 1-3 Mexico: World Cup Group A Highlights From Recife

Posted by

Watch Mexico book their place in the second round with a victory over Niko Kovac’s Croatia.

Mexico will face The Netherlands in the last sixteen of the 2014 FIFA World Cup after comfortably seeing off the threat of Croatia in Recife.

With Mexico knowing that a draw was enough for them to progress, the game was cagey until twenty minutes from time when big centre back Rafael Marquez headed in a corner just moments after a clear penalty hadn’t been given when Andres Guardado’s goal-bound shot was handled.

Guardado did get on the scoresheet, however, sweeping in at the far post to spark wild celebrations, whilst there was even brief thoughts of winning the group when Javier Hernandez headed in after a corner was flicked on at the near post.

A fine goal from Ivan Perisic ended those hopes, however, whilst his teammate Ante Rebic, a late substitute, saw red for a shocking challenge to cap a bad night for Croatia.
