With England already out of the tournament before their final game against Costa Rica on Tuesday, questions must be asked of Roy Hodgson and whether his choice in personnel was correct.

When placed in a tough group alongside the likes of Italy and Uruguay, Hodgson went for young and hungry as opposed to experienced and wily, when a more balanced blend of the two would have been more ideal.

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom (just mostly doom) as England displayed some moments of genuine brilliance that will give fans a reason to cheer in the future, but with that in mind here are the assessments of every player that got on the pitch in three words.
