Rodgers keen to land long term target Lovren.
Liverpool are set to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the chase for Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren, reports the Daily Star.
Saints ex-manager and new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign his former player as well, but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has the edge in the pursuit of the Croat as his side are in the Champions League for next season.
Rodgers is keen to plug the holes in his defence before next season and feels that the £15 million rated Lovren could be an able central defensive partner for either Martin Skrtel or Mamadou Sakho at Anfield next term.
Lovren too is keen on a switch to a bigger club as he has handed in a transfer request at the Saints to force a move out of St. Mary’s.
Liverpool want Lovren and his teammate Adam Lallana’s signings in the bag before they face the Saints in their opening game of next season, and it looks increasingly likely that they will land at least one of the two players soon.
