Wenger has injury concerns over Theo Walcott and could be ready to sell Lukas Podolski whilst there is also speculation about Santi Cazorla’s future at the Emirates Stadium all of which will fuel the Arsenal manager’s interest in tabling a bid for the 22 year old.

Shaqiri saw his first team chances grow limited under Pep Guardiola and has been given on guarantees from the Allianz Arena manager that the situation is likely to improve and Arsenal will mount a £17m bid for the former FC Basel man with Wenger on hand in Brazil to enter direct negotiations with representatives of the youngster.

Bayern Munich forked out £9.3m for Shaqiri just over two years ago and given his limited role at the Bundesliga side an offer of almost twice that outlay may be hard for the German giants to ignore.

Shaqiri has greatly impressed when called upon at Bayern Munich, scoring 15 goals and providing 16 assists in 65 appearances of which 31 were from the bench.

The talented wide-man has also greatly impressed during the World Cup finals, scoring a hat-trick against Honduras to help book a place in the last 16 for his Swiss side.
