Manchester United To Lose Out To Rivals City In Fight For Argentine Midfielder

Young Argentine midfielder Bruno Zuculini is set for a move to Manchester City, despite speculation linking him with their fierce rivals.

Manchester City are set to complete the signing of young Argentine midfielder Bruno Zuculini from Racing Club, ahead of local rivals United, according to reports in the Express.

The 21 year-old defensive midfielder could be a bargain for Manuel Pellegrini, costing a fee in the region of £1.5 million, a snip considering his reputation as an emerging star of Argentinian football.

City have long been linked with Zuculini, with reports previously having suggested that a deal for the 21 year-old’s services was agreed as far back as February, but it appears that confirmation is now finally imminent for City fans hoping to see the club’s midfielder strengthened.

Whilst Zuculini was not a part of Alejandro Sabella’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Zuculini is highly regarded in his native country and has been an impressive performer for Racing Club over more than 90 appearances in the Argentine league.

He is likely to provide cover and competition for established holding midfielder Fernandinho at first, but with Pellegrini likely to want to be more flexible when it comes to moving away from his favoured 4-4-2 system on occasions, particularly in the Champions League, Zuculini is likely to provide options for his Chilean boss.

United, meanwhile, are not likely to be too disappointed at missing out on Zuculini, having confirmed the signing if big money midfielder Ander Herrera this evening.
