Everton Manager Roberto Martinez To Try Again For Manchester City Midfield Flop

Toffees keen to re-sign former player.Everton are leading the chase with West Bromwich Albion to bring back their former player Jack Rodwell from Manchester City, according to the Daily Mirror.

The injury-prone 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium since moving to the club in the summer of 2012, with repeated injury problems keeping him from fulfilling his potential.

Still highly regarded by Everton, Roberto Martinez is keen to bring the player back to Goodison Park this year as he eyes new signings in midfield, with another former Man City star Gareth Barry still deciding on his future after spending the season on loan with the Merseyside club.

Rodwell could have a similar impact in the middle of the park if he can stay fit, but his signing could represent something of a gamble for the Toffees, who will be hoping he is available for relatively cheap.

It seems likely that City will be willing to sell the England international after they confirmed the £12m signing of Porto star Fernando earlier this week, whose arrival will surely push Rodwell even further down in he pecking order at the club.

Everton tried to sign Rodwell on loan in January, and will now compete with West Brom to sign him on a permanent deal before the start of next season.
