Brazil’s star forward Neymar is grateful to his country’s biggest footballing icon Pele for advising him to snub a move to West Londoners Chelsea at a very young age, reports the Daily Mail.

The 22-year old is now a star at Barcelona and carries the tag of being the finest player in his country.

The former Santos starlet revealed ahead of Brazil’s round of 16 World Cup clash against Chile that he made a bold but correct call in rejecting a big money offer from the Blues in 2010.

Speaking about the moment of truth, Neymar said, “That decision would be a turning point in my life. Even Pele called me. Can you imagine how important I felt? The King of Football called and asked me to stay. He reminded me of his entire career with Santos, his five world titles with the national team and the club, and all the recognition he received. It wasn’t easy but it was the right decision for us.”

Neymar’s decision to snub one of the modern day powerhouses in Europe stands vindicated as he now stands on the cusp of greatness with the Catalan giants, and does not seem to have lost any precious time at the start of what promises to be a glittering career for both club and country.

So far at the World Cup, the Golden Boy has scored four goals in three matches, and will be looking to put the sword to Chile this evening.
