Chelsea are set to seal a surprise move to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang according to the Daily Star.

The 25 year old Gabon international moved from Saint-Etienne to the Westfalenstadion a year ago, seen by some as the long term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who has left to join Bayern Munich, so it’s a tad surprising to hear that the powerful forward would be heading to Stamford Bridge.

Aubameyang had a solid first season in Germany, scoring 13 goals in 21 Bundesliga starts, but is now said to be set to join the Blues for as little as £7m.

Having failed during an early spell at AC Milan Aubameyang got his career back on track in France with stints at Dijon, Lille and AS Monaco before completing a permanent move to Saint-Etienne where the French born marksman netted 41 goals in 96 appearances before moving to Germany.

Jose Mourinho has clearly identifed his attack as the key area of weakness he needs to address this summer and with a £32m deal in place to sign Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa it appears Aubameyang will also be brought in.

Veteran Samuel Eto’o has left the west London club following the end of his one year contract and one imagines that neither Fernando Torres nor Demba Ba can be confident about remaining at Stamford Bridge much longer.
