Having secured an instant return to the top tier, albeit narrowly winning a play-off final to do so, Redknapp is right to push for a fresh striking option, not least as his side struggled for goals for much of last season.

Charlie Austin was essentially the only member of the west London club’s attack who managed to score with any regularity and the former Burnley man is untested as Premier League level.

Redknapp has set his sights on Chelsea bit-part player Demba Ba, who is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and can be purchased at a very reasonable fee of £7m.

Though the 29 year old has struggled for form at Stamford Bridge he is nonetheless a proven top tier marksman having scored regularly for West Ham and Newcastle United.

Option number two is 30 year old Tottenham man Emmanuel Adebayor, who’s career at White Hart Lane was revived by former boss Tim Sherwood.

The Togo international had been snubbed by Andre Villas-Boas but Roberto Soldado’s failings in front of goal led Sherwood to give the former Arsenal man the chance to impress and Adebayor was not found wanting.

Despite only making his first start of the season in late December Adebayor still comfortably finished as Tottenham’s leading scorer in 2013/14, netting 11 goals in 20 starts.

A move for Adebayor would however entail QPR having to meet his notoriously high wage demands.
