Gunners playmaker on Barca radar.
Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil had been one of Barcelona’s potential transfer targets for this summer before they decided to focus their efforts on signing Luis Suarez, according to the Metro.
The German international, currently on World Cup duty with his country, only made the move to the Emirates Stadium last summer, arriving in a club-record £42.5m deal from Real Madrid.
Although Ozil endured a somewhat inconsistent first season with the Gunners, he remains one of the most highly regarded attacking midfield players in world football at the moment, and helped his side end their long wait for silverware as they triumphed in the FA Cup final.
A skillful and intelligent playmaker, Ozil would certainly fit the Barcelona mould as they eye replacements for Xavi and Cesc Fabregas, though a move for a former Real Madrid player would no doubt be a controversial one.
Still, it is thought that Barca have now cooled their interest in the 25-year-old as they look to focus their efforts on the big-money purchase of Uruguay star Suarez from Liverpool, who looks likely to leave Anfield this summer.
Other big names such as Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado and Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos are said to be Luis Enrique’s main targets.
