Manchester United and Barcelona have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid and Uruguay youngster Jose Maria Giminez, according to the Daily Mirror.

The talented teenager has not been a regular since arriving at Atletico last summer, making just two appearances in all competitions this season, but he has impressed top clubs with his solid performances for Uruguay at this summer’s World Cup.

The 19-year-old played a key role in Uruguay’s solid victories over England and Italy in Group D, and with both United and Barca on the lookout for new defensive signings this summer, he has emerged as a top target due to his relatively cheap buy-out clause.

Giminez could move for just £19.2m this summer, and Atletico are hoping to offer the youngster a new contract to persuade him to stay at the Vicente Calderon, as well as raising his asking price to £33m.

With big names such as Miranda being linked with a move away from Atletico this summer, Giminez could find himself thrust into the starting lineup next season, but he may also be tempted by offers from Old Trafford or the Nou Camp.

Giminez would prove a far cheaper alternative to the clubs’ top targets such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos.
