The Argentine may well have been warned away from approaching his former Saints side, not least as Southampton’s top talents appear to be heading elsewhere, and now wants to lure players from the Liberty Stadium instead.

With a view to boosting the Spurs attack Pochettino has earmarked a move for Ivory Coast forward Wilfried Bony, who netted an impressive 25 goals in his first Swansea City campaign.

Pochettino will look to youngster Ben Davies to resolve Tottenham’s ongoing left-back crisis, perhaps seeing the Welsh international as a preferable option to both Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen, the Belgian being far better suited to a central defensive role.

The north London side are also keen on keeper Michel Vorm and one wonders if this is down to a fear that Tottenham could lose French star Hugo Lloris, arguably the club’s most consistent player.

Vorm could well be challenged for his Swansea City place by new arrival Lukasz Fabianski and could well be tempted by a move to White Hart Lane.
